The Future We Build for Our Youth Will Define Stittsville

A few weeks ago, I was knocking on doors in Blackstone. A girl — maybe twelve years old — opened the door behind her mom. She had a science workbook in her hand and three questions for me before her mother could get a word in.

What was I going to do about more swings in our park?

Why does my mom not allow me walk alone to the school bus?

Did I think a kid like her could be on city council someday?

I thought about that conversation for a week.

Because here's the thing. We talk a lot about growth in Stittsville. Roads. Taxes. Developments. Density. The line items and the maps.

We talk a lot less about her.

And she's the whole point.

What I keep hearing from parents

I'm not just running into potholes at the door. I'm running into worry.

Parents in Fernbank, Fairwinds, Blackstone — every corner of Ward 6 — keep asking me the same things.

Will my child have opportunities here, or will they have to leave to find them?

Will their school zone be safe enough to walk to?

Where will they actually go after the bell rings — and on weekends, and in the summer?

What will their world look like in ten years, and is anyone planning for it?

Not just affordability. Not just housing.

Direction.

That's not acceptable. Not in a community growing this fast. Not in a ward contributing this much.

I came through work. Not politics.

I didn't grow up planning to run for office. I'm not from a political family. I didn't build my career inside the political system — I built it outside it, in places where if you don't deliver, you don't survive.

My parents were teachers. I grew up working class. That's where my values come from.

I came to Canada chasing opportunity. I built a career in technology, cybersecurity, and operations — managing a team that leads critical network and security infrastructure at Ontario Health, and running a security company that provides employment to people across multiple provinces in Canada.

I chose to live in Stittsville with my family, in Fairwinds. This is the community I knock on doors in every week. This is where my life is. This is where the work is.

I know what it takes to scale something that's growing fast without breaking what made it work in the first place.

That's exactly what Stittsville is right now.

Something growing fast.

Something that could break if we're not careful about what we're building.

And I know this too: the strongest communities aren't built by people making promises. They're built by people willing to invest in the next generation before problems become crises.

The world our kids are walking into

I work in technology. So let me say this plainly.

The world our kids will graduate into is not the one we graduated into.

New industries are rising. Old ones are changing fast. The careers our kids will grow into haven't all been invented yet. And many of the trades, the small businesses, the skilled work that built Stittsville — they're going to matter more, not less.

The skills they'll need to thrive — skilled trades, creativity, critical thinking, communication, resilience — have to start being built now.

And here's what local leadership too often misses: this is a municipal issue.

Because where kids spend their afternoons matters.

The mentors they meet matter.

The library branches they walk into matter.

The sports fields, the maker spaces, the youth programs, the safe streets that let them get there — they matter.

A city can grow fast and still fail its kids.

We will not be that city.

What I want for Stittsville's kids

A community where young entrepreneurs find their first customers right here in Ward 6.

Where students see real opportunity close to home — mentorship, internships, work experience — instead of having to drive downtown to find them.

Where recreation isn't a luxury. Where every kid in Fernbank, Blackstone, and the older village has a real place to play, train, and belong.

Where the rec spaces, sports fields, and gathering places keep up with how fast Ward 6 is growing.

Where the school crossings parents flag year after year actually get fixed.

Where teens in crisis have somewhere to walk in — not just a waitlist to call.

Where every kid — regardless of subdivision, background, or income — knows their community believes in them.

That's not a wish list.

That's a budget. A plan. A council vote.

And it has to be fought for.

What's on the ballot

This election is about more than potholes and timelines.

It's about who's planning forward — and what they're planning for.

Stittsville's next ten years can't just be about managing growth. They have to be about investing in the people growing up inside it.

I'm not promising the world. I'm promising the work.

My mother's words: "My mother told me something I carry every day. Power changes people. Don't let it change you."

If you give me your vote on October 26, that's the promise.

To the parents I've sat with at kitchen tables.

To the girl at the door in Blackstone with the science book.

To every kid in Ward 6 who deserves a community that planned for them, not around them.

Stittsville is growing.

Our kids are watching how we grow.

This isn't just about one election. It's about the kind of community we leave behind in ten, twenty, thirty years from now.

Growth should mean more than expansion.

It should mean building a future worth growing into.
